Iceland’s backcountry skiing terrain is defined by steep fjord walls, long summit-to-sea runs, and wide open alpine bowls with no trees, creating a huge amount of easily skiable ground for a wide range of abilities. In the north, especially around the Troll Peninsula and the Westfjords, you can link 800–1,200 meter fall-line descents from high, glaciated peaks all the way to the shoreline, with everything from mellow powder ramps to couloirs that drop almost straight into the Arctic Ocean.

Getting to the mountains in North Iceland is straightforward: you will fly into Keflavík (KEF), transfer into Reykjavík, and then take a short domestic flight to Akureyri in the north. From Akureyri, we will meet you at the airport, load up your gear, and make the scenic drive along the coast to either Dalvík or Ólafsfjörður, where we settle in and get ready to start our ski trip the next day.
